Storz & Bickel’s Mighty brings function and style to the vape game

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas - The Germans have a knack for engineering that’s both sensible and sexy, and with Storz & Bickel’s Mighty, a new pinnacle has been reached.

Unfortunately, one of the drop-off points for many would-be vapers is the complexity behind the products. Chip sets, insulators, temperature settings, wattage - to be fair, it’s a valid argument, and with that in mind, it’s no wonder why Storz & Bickel’s Mighty is the front runner when it comes to vaping. Using the device, the whole process from go-to-whoa is reduced to mere flicks of the wrist, taking much of the brain work out, allowing for maximum enjoyment.

A Porsche GT3 in the Sunday cup

But it’s worldwide acclaim it’s due to more than it’s straight-forward functionality. With the Mighty, Storz & Bickel have released a vape that doesn’t look like a vape. When compared to the alternative, building a unit that adheres to the principles of slick, futuristic minimalist design, in the vape game, is like bringing a Porsche GT3 to the Sunday cup. While about palm size - 13.8cm x 7.8cm x 3.2cm to be precise - It does have somewhat of a presence, and is therefore larger than a pen option, Yet the Mighty is discrete and understated in its standard matte black finish.

Straight to the point - the device features a 1x1 LED digital temperature and battery display, with adjustment buttons, a cleaning tool stashed underneath and that’s it - It’s business time.

As well as a charger, the Mighty comes with cleaning tools, a grinder and bowl-packer, putting everything you need for your session in one tidy package. Battery life is remarkably consistent. A full-on session and with regular use could hold its own for up to two days, though this user can confirm that after sitting in a box for a week on account of unexpected natural circumstances, the Mighty had dropped just two of it’s six bars of battery.

Packing two lithium-ion batteries, the Mighty uses a USB-C meaning you’ll be able to find a charger no matter where you are. It can take up to 3 hours to fully charge from a dead battery, the long battery life is well worth the wait.

From the Autobahn to the back streets

Despite it’s minimal functionality, the Mighty can cater to a session that’s a blazing burnout, or a gentle cruise and with a hefty sized bowl, regardless of the pace, you’ll be well stocked for the journey. While it does feel as though the Mighty takes fewer pulls than some other vapes, the extraction appears to be much more thorough, with packing appearing to be pretty well used up so if you’ll excuse another car metaphor, it will serve you well to go easy on the gas.

Storz & Bickel put the Mighty through rigorous testing, the latest in medical certifications (while yet to be medically certified), and the entire experience tells, right down to the almost refreshingly effective cooling systeming, taking the spice out of your pulls but leaving all the flavour.

Whether pulling hard or easy, the Mighty put its full power into it, working through a seemingly perfectly balanced convection and conduction heating system it’s famed hybrid heating system - showing that when it comes to vapes, you can have the best of both worlds.

The Mighty favours first and foremost dry herb, working through your packing without missing a crumb. Whereas other units tend to always have some behind, the Mighty won’t waste a drop so while you might get slightly fewer pulls, the ones you get are significantly denser and more pure than you might find with other vapes.

That said, the Mighty does come with stainless steel mesh to use with concentrate, catering to whatever ails you. While not the lung-busting hit you might get with an e-Right, the Mighty lets the contrate hit with a much more focused jab.

Another worthwhile feature of the Mighty is its sheer strength. After numerous knee-high drops and slips off the couch, the Mighty continues to go strong, long after enduring conditions that would - and have - made lesser vapes crumble.

Nothing’s Perfect…

We’d be remiss to not mention the few setbacks of the Mighty - and we really do mean few. The device’s curved base does feel like somewhat of an oversight, requiring a dedicated base to keep it upright. While it’s well short of session-ruining, you’ll be laying it down which feels wrong.

The other potential setback is the price. At AUD$434.95 plus postage and delivery, the Mighty might not be cheap. But as with most feats of German engineering, the Mighty is for users who want something that doesn’t just work good, but looks good while it works.
